Haiti Population

Haiti's demographics are shaped as much by exodus as by births. Fertility has fallen to moderate levels, but the deeper story is emigration: the 2010 earthquake and the gang crisis that escalated after 2021 have pushed Haitians toward the United States, the Dominican Republic and Chile in large numbers. The population still grows for now, though the projection has it cresting in the 2070s at close to sixteen million.

Haiti is the world's 82nd most populous country, home to about 12.0 million people in 2026. Set in Caribbean, its demographic path this century turns on the balance of births, deaths and migration. Population density stands at about 437 people for every square kilometre of land.

Haiti is projected to keep growing until about 2076, when its population peaks at roughly 15.7 million before a gradual decline sets in, leaving it near 15.2 million by 2100.

At roughly 2.63 births per woman, fertility remains above replacement, though it has been trending down. Emigration adds a further drag, as departures outnumber arrivals year to year.

Half of Haiti is currently younger than about 24, but by 2100 the median age is projected to reach around 40, while life expectancy, near 65 years, keeps rising. A rising median age means fewer working-age people supporting each retiree over time.
