The Dominican Republic's fertility has fallen toward the replacement level, slowing growth in a country whose economy leans heavily on tourism. Its demographics are also shaped by migration, both the arrival of Haitians and the departure of Dominicans to the United States. The population remains relatively young but is steadily maturing.

With roughly 11.6 million people as of 2026, Dominican Republic ranks 84th in the world by population. A country of Caribbean, its trajectory to 2100 is governed by how births, deaths and migration play out. Population density stands at about 240 people for every square kilometre of land.

Growth continues for Dominican Republic until around 2061, the year its population is set to crest at about 13.2 million. From there a slow fall takes it to roughly 11.7 million by century's end.

Half of Dominican Republic is currently younger than about 28, but by 2100 the median age is projected to reach around 46, even as life expectancy improves from about 74 years. A rising median age means fewer working-age people supporting each retiree over time.

At roughly 2.22 births per woman, fertility remains above replacement, though it has been trending down. Net outward migration also weighs on the total, with more people leaving than arriving.
